BLAIR RANDALL

In 1943, over 20 million Victory Gardens through-out the United States produced 8 million tons of food. Today, Garden for the Environment and San Francisco artist Amy Franceschini seek to re-implement the WWI and WWII Victory Garden program.

Blair Randall is Program Director at Garden for the Environment and a partner in the Victory Gardens 07+ project. Founded 17 years ago, Garden for the Environment maintains a nationally acclaimed one-acre urban demonstration garden and offers environmental education programs teaching organic gardening, urban composting and advocates for sustainable agriculture practices. Blair has previously served as a Co-Director of Pond Gallery in San Francisco and seeks to, through the Victory Gardens 07+ project, hitch the utopian vision in recent art to the idealism of the sustainable food movement. In Bill Arning’s words (Curator at MIT’s LIST Visual Arts Center), “The art object today is best understood not as wondrous, but rather as a catalyst for a set of stimulating relationships that make up the art experience.”
