KIRK AZEVEDO
Kirk J. Azevedo is a former Monsanto employee who grew up in a California farm family and worked in several jobs monitoring, testing, and marketing insecticides, herbicides and plant hormones. During summer breaks while studying biochemistry and psychology at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, he worked for the Ag chemical dealer / distributor Helena Chemical Co.. After graduation he worked in research and development for Abbott Laboratories where he helped to develop and market biological insecticides.
Azevedo worked with many of the brightest minds in agriculture while on the University of California’s committee to integrate principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) into the Pest Control Advisors (PCAs) exam. He served on the California State 12th Senate District Committee on Agriculture and Water Resources.
His agricultural career came to a grinding halt when he felt the moral obligation to oppose the practices of his employer, Monsanto Co. who was allowing test plot material from genetically engineered cotton seed to enter the food supply without proper testing.
After quitting Monsanto he has continued to study genetic engineering and prion diseases and earned a Doctor of Chiropractic (Cum Laude) from Palmer West in San Jose, CA. He is the owner and founder of CORE Care, a multidisciplinary healthcare facility in Cambria, CA.
Azevedo will be featured in several upcoming publications and programs including Genetic Roulette, by Jeffrey Smith, a book to be released in April, 2007; a documentary about Monsanto by French journalist, Marie-Monique Robin to be released 2007 on the Franco-German channel ARTE and twelve international channels, and a TV documentary about Monsanto by German investigative reporter, Christian Jentzsch to be released 2007.
