INSIDER%20TOURS

Taste3 insider tours offer a rare opportunity to explore the wine, food and culture of Napa Valley with an array of experiences created solely for Taste3 attendees. These complimentary pre-conference activities take place on Thursday, July 17. Tours are first come, first served and currently the tours are full. To be added to the waitlist, select your preferences and we will let you know if a spot becomes available.

#1: Three Mediums and a Muse

Join the inspiring Margrit Mondavi on a private studio tour of three Napa Valley artists working in varied mediums. Gordon Huether’s large scale sculptures in recycled glass and metal communicate an intellectual and emotional message; Gail Chase-Bien is an abstract painter whose works are a metaphor for the human spirit; and each one of potter Renata Allen’s tiny clay sculptures expresses both her inward feelings and a universe unto itself. The tour concludes with a delectable lunch in Yountville.

Tour is limited to 12 people.
Departs Copia at 9:30 AM.

#2: Inside Insight

Bring your camera! Photographer Andrea Fazzari, 2007 Taste3 speaker, will share the secrets behind her rich and evocative photos of places and people, while guiding the group on the ultimate “inside” experience—deep inside two very different wine caves of Napa Valley. The tour will explore the five levels of Palmaz Winery’s caves, with an al fresco wine tasting. Next stop is O’Shaughnessy Winery for a different approach to caves and winemaking, with lunch at the winery.

Tour is limited to 12 people.

#3: Hiking the Vertical Vines

Join Winemaker Janet Myers and Vineyard Manager Matt Ashby of Mount Veeder Winery for a private excursion on the mountain. You’ll hike up a path to hidden vineyards in the sky, with breathtaking views of Napa Valley. Learn how Janet and Matt harness the beauty of this steep, challenging environment into brambly, concentrated wines, while respecting the land and wildlife. Then raise a glass to the mountain as you savor the views at a picnic lunch al fresco in the vineyards. Comfortable shoes, sunblock and hats suggested. Hike is moderate in difficulty.

Tour is limited to 12 people.

#4: Fascination with Fermentation

At the Culinary Institute of America, Greystone, Master Baker Peter Reinhart and Chef Bill Briwa explore the many forms of fermentation—from bread and chocolate to cheese, tea and wine—and their culinary expression. Two separate workshop groups will come together to enjoy the fruits of their inventions with a lunch at the CIA.

Tour is limited to 24 people (2 groups of 12)

#5: The Seeds of Creativity

Arlene Bernstein defies definition: Master gardener, author of Growing Season: Life Lessons from the Garden, psychotherapist, cofounder with her husband Michael of Mount Veeder Winery, photographer, painter and more.

In this exceptional experience, you will join Arlene at her home where she will share the wonders of her beautifully natural garden, filled with unique plantings from seeds collected from her world travels. Wander with Arlene through both her garden and art studio to see her works in photographs, clay and paint, based on nature and inspired by her garden. Talk with her about art, books, her travels—and the healing power of working the land, how gardening is the creative center of her life.

Lunch with Arlene follows at renowned vegetarian restaurant and yoga studio Ubuntu in Napa.

Tour is limited to 12 people.
